Work Experience

At Outwood Academy Hemsworth we aim not only to provide an outstanding teaching and learning environment, but also to guide students as they plan for the next stage in their lives.

This has been recognised by Ofsted, who in the latest inspection report, said:

“Leaders have ensured that a strong programme of careers information and guidance prepare students well for their next steps into education”

Outwood Academy Hemsworth Post 16 encourages all students to participate in work experience,  For some students applying to some university courses, work experience is a requirement, however for others work experience may be an integral part of a BTEC course. For all students it will provide them with a valuable experience of the workplace and the opportunity to develop new skills and knowledge to support their future career goals.

A wide-ranging and impressive selection of work placements have been secured by the Post 16 centre for students over the next academic year. However, students can secure their own work placement too. There is no doubt this is an enormous advantage when applying for next stages after school.

Our aim for work experience is to:

  • Equip students with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to make informed decisions about their learning through a relevant work experience placement;
  • Support students with personalised careers information, advice and guidance to help them build up the confidence to take charge of their career development and manage their own progression through learning and work;
  • Inspire students to consider a broad and ambitious range of options and to move on to achieve their full potential.
